An SA8000 update: Leggett is awarded workplace certification.
In our last issue, we informed you about our efforts to achieve SA8000 Certification in our China Fixtures facility, official recognition that Leggett is providing and maintaining an ethical and humane workplace for our employees.
In this issue, we're proud to announce that we have been awarded that certification — becoming only the 243rd facility in China to earn the certificate. Less than 1800 facilities have been certified worldwide.
As a business and as human beings, we place a lot of value on SA8000 Certification because of the values to which it attests. As the world becomes more globalized and companies seek out economies abroad, too often those who are most vulnerable are exploited by unfair and inhumane labor practices. To prevent such abuse, SAI (Social Accountability International) certifies and monitors workplace policies and practices to ensure accountability in a wide range of areas, including:
- Child labor
- Forced labor
- Workplace safety & health
- Freedom of association
- Right to collective bargaining
- Discipline
- Working hours
- Remuneration
At Leggett & Platt, we proactively pursued SA8000 certification to ensure our facility is a fair and equitable place to work for our employees in China...and that our customers — and theirs — can rest assured they're doing business with a fair and equitable company.
